A New Chapter: Trump’s Early Appointments Stir Excitement and Debate

It's been two weeks since election day, and a lot has happened since. While Donald Trump may be stepping into office in January, his victory has already been followed by many promising cabinet picks that have excited many Americans. These picks hold the potential to bring about significant and positive changes in the next few months and years. Some people see this as a time when our country has been more divided than ever; others see this as a fresh start for our government and are excited to see the meaningful changes that will occur.

A very diverse array of responses followed Donald Trump's victory. Some people were excited to celebrate this win, while others unfollowed anyone who disagreed with their viewpoints. Joe Biden stated in a video posted to the @whitehouse Instagram after election day, "You can't love your country only when you win," a statement that underscores the importance of political tolerance. While having different opinions from others may be challenging to handle at times, it is also a part of life, and people must learn to respect other's opposing political views. This tolerance and understanding is not just crucial, but it's the cornerstone of a healthy democracy.

A tactic heavily used by the Democratic party during this election was fear-mongering. This involved spreading misinformation and exaggerating potential adverse outcomes to sway public opinion. As much as we believed this would end after the election results were announced, it has continued to be instilled into people to cause a divide in the country. Many women have taken to social media to spread false claims of rights being taken away from them. Not only is this incorrect, but it is also an insult to women in other countries who do not have the freedom we have here in America. Pushing this sort of narrative is dangerous and unnecessary.

Trump was the first president to elect a woman, Susie Wiles, as White House Chief of Staff, a very high cabinet position. Along with Wiles, Karoline Leavitt was appointed Press Secretary. She will also go down as a historical pick as being the youngest Press Secretary for the White House. While some women have tried to portray Trump as a villain who does not see them as equal to men, his cabinet picks have been proving them wrong.

Other cabinet members named so far are Tom Homan as Border Czar, Elise Stefanik as the US ambassador to the United Nations, and Robert F. Kennedy Jr. as Secretary of Health and Human Services. These individuals bring a wealth of experience and expertise to their roles, and their appointments signal a commitment to addressing critical issues facing the nation. Robert F. Kennedy Jr., who comes from a family with a long history of being democrats, shows how, regardless of party affiliation, it is always possible to work together to improve this nation.

One of the most exciting announcements Trump has made so far is appointing Elon Musk and Vivek Ramaswamy to lead the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE). In this role, they will oversee and optimize government spending. The DOGE's mission is to ensure that our tax dollars are used efficiently and transparently. Their plan helps expose and eliminate wasteful uses of citizens' tax dollars. Their goal is to decrease the US national debt, and one of the most beneficial ways to do so is to go through all government spending and see where cuts can be made. It also means considering what government agencies can be cut because they believe that too many agencies can cause a problem of overregulation in government.

As the weeks go by and we approach the Inauguration, I look forward to seeing what decisions Trump makes regarding the remaining cabinet positions that need to be filled. While some of the appointed cabinet member's names excite individuals, others bring fear. I hope this can change over time and that people can trust Donald Trump's decisions thus far.
